Course details
This Riverlution-designed course is aimed at individuals and organisations responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering volunteer activities within river and land-based environments. It provides the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence required to manage volunteers safely, effectively, and in line with best practice.
The course combines environmental awareness with essential safety training, focusing on river stewardship, invasive species management, and the practical considerations of running volunteer workdays. Participants will develop an understanding of how to engage volunteers, manage risk, and deliver safe, structured activities in outdoor settings.
Two delivery options are available:
Option 1 – 3 Day Programme
Day 1 focuses on River Stewardship and Invasive Species training for volunteers.
Day 2 delivers Emergency First Aid training, accredited by LANTRA.
Day 3 covers Safe Working Near Water, accredited by Rescue 3 Europe.
This programme is designed for up to 12 participants and provides a comprehensive blend of environmental and accredited safety training.
Approximate cost: £6,640 (dependent on venue and dry suit hire requirements).
Option 2 – 2 Day Programme
Day 1 focuses on River Stewardship and Invasive Species training for volunteers.
Day 2 provides a detailed session on health and safety when working near water and managing volunteer days, including writing risk assessments and basic, non-accredited training in the use of life jackets and throwlines.
This programme is designed for up to 15 participants and offers a practical, cost-effective approach to volunteer management and safety.
Approximate cost: £1,600 (dependent on venue requirements).
Upon completion, participants will be better equipped to plan and deliver safe, effective volunteer activities, with Option 1 also providing recognised accredited certifications.
