Volunteer Days

July was a very full month for volunteer days! Four volunteer days of varying sizes, these included days with the Sheaf and Porter Rivers Trust, First Contact Centre, Efficiency North and Sheffield City Council. Thank you to Martin and our brilliant team of apprentices who organised and delivered these days for the volunteers. These days were hugely successful; we received glowing feedback about each of the sessions.

Cross County

Riverlution had work and projects going on reaching further abroad than South Yorkshire and around the Humber this month. We have had work in Lincolnshire, East, West and South Yorkshire as well as conducted EPAs in Dorset and Surrey.

Bit by bit, we are growing and beginning to reach further out in the impact that we are making. This is brilliant to see and hopefully will continue to grow with more areas becoming aware of Riverlution and the work that we do.

UK Youth Placements

This year we’re excited to be hosting 2 youth placements through UK Youth again. We have Bailey and Kaiden with us helping to complete the mapping of the Becks Sheffield City Council. They will be surveying watercourses across Sheffield for litter, knotweed, hogweed and Balsam, using tablets to input the data onto our GIS mapping and litter picking. Do say hi to them when you see them around and we hope that they both enjoy their placements with us.

Monthly Focus - River Schools

River Schools - Lesson Packs

We’re currently creating two lesson packs, along with a range of supporting resources, that can be used in primary schools. The aim is to bring the knowledge and understanding that we currently provide to teens and older, to younger children, helping to spark an early interest in our rivers and the environment around them.

We’ve kicked off the project by launching a mascot design competition, giving children the chance to create a mascot that will feature throughout the lesson packs and resources.
